HOTH: Crochet Group End of Year Contributions

🧶❤🧶❤🧶❤🧶❤🧶❤

I am so ridiculously proud of my little crochet group. We have a few dozen members but only about 10 of us that crochet.

This year has been so challenging for so many of us, but we managed to do 60 lapghans (split between our domestic abuse shelter, senior orphans and Moffitt Cancer center; baby hats for Shaken Baby syndrome Oklahoma; hats, scarves, clothing, food and other items for our Senior Orphans.

Now meet some of the crew:

Our Leader and my Bestie!
A Force to be wreckened with Ms M. She’s 91!
A newby and 2 Hook Sisters: 1 from Boston and 1 from Ohio
1 of the Youngins and part of the sustenance provided by our leader.
Me and the newby admiring all our hard work, all tagged and bagged.
Even though she couldn’t be here, she sent stuff all the way from North Georgia❣

Camera Clicks: Fire Images

I am obsessed with taking photos of fire. If you know a firefighter, they will talk about fighting the Dragon. I think I actually captured one and several other images…let me know what you see…

Dragon
Figures praying or dancing
Dragon II
??? Can’t decide…people laying on ground
Wolf pack and moon
Birds taking flight
Baby birds in a nest
People dancing…critters in the woods…
Cats in a cradle
Women and children

HOTH – Poncho and Blankie repair

I made this blankie for a little boy. it was my first “squares” , I loved doing the squares but sewing them is a whole other story.

Almost immediately it started coming apart and it was brought back to me to fix. Sadly, it took me forever to get back to it. Everyone started having babies and I was way out in the weeds. But I finally got to it.

I have to say, I still really like everything about it and I learned a thing or two about joining squares.

Now this little project will get delivered this weekend and I can’t wait! A toddler poncho and a Newsboy hat 💘🧶

From the Lady Cave: Just Do It!

I am speaking from my own personal experience and hindsight.

I’ve often said “Be like Nike; Just Do It!”

(No this is NOT an endorsement)

What is your first thought when you hear this statement? I am willing to bet it starts with “But…”and then you list all the reasons why you can’t.

I get that there are financial constraints, so please don’t use that excuse.

What I am getting at is “How do you know unless you try?” Believe me, I know something about this; I haven’t lived this long without figuring out that I am the only person standing in my own way.

If you read my last post you’ll know that procrastination is not good.

Take that step, one little step! Nothing easy is worth doing, but I’ll guarantee that once you “try” you’ll realize it’s never as hard as you thought it would be. Sometimes doing stuff outside your comfort zone is Scary as Hell! But holy moly can it be an amazing experience; like driving my own motorcycle.

What’s the worst can happen? You find out it doesn’t work out? So what! Now you have a better idea of what will work, so you back up and try again.

Recently for me I’ve discovered that in crochet, I really can do most of the things I thought were way to complicated.

Did I do it all on my own? Nope, sure didn’t. I used video tutorials, asked experts and I leaned heavily on what I already knew and BAM I FREAKING DID IT!

Poncho and baby Newsboy hat for one of my granddaughters.

HOTH – it’s in the Details – A lesson in paying attention!

Have you heard the saying “it’s in the details”? You’d think as old as I am and my experience buying yarn all this time, I’d be better at paying attention!

So I saw an “All Call” to apply to be a pattern tester but they wanted you to use a specific yarn. So I rush to buy some, and because it was “on sale”, I made the order. Well, I got sucked into “buy $60 worth for free shipping ” gimmick…my order just arrived…

What, is this sorcery? LOL Surely 30 skeins of yarn cannot fit in this cute little package? Maybe, the shipment was split up, and only 1 made it today?

Nope…

I spent $63 on 30 skeins. They were on sale for 5 skeins for $10, making them $2 a piece. Not a terrible deal but for me not the best deal.

So now I am nursing a bruised ego because I should have paid attention to the “Size or Weight” of the skein. In this case is 1.7oz. 🤔

Ok so let’s turn this in to a positive because that’s what we do, right?

This is Paint Box Cotton yarn and I have not worked with it before. I have worked with another kind, let’s see how they compare.

First, the Paint Box colors are way more vivid than the others I have.

Second, the Paint Box yarn is a thinner 4 weight than the other brands. And Finally, it Definitely feels better or softer than the others.

I haven’t had a chance to work a swatch but in my experience, I’d say this is going to be Great to work with.

So have you worked with this brand before? Have you worked with this cotton yarn in particular? Please tell me about your experiences.
