Keto Journey – Distractions

When I quit smoking, it wasn’t the “Not Smoking” part that I had trouble with, it was all the dang “Free Time” I now had on my hands that was a bitch!

So what did I do?

I hot glued all kinds of things to make wreaths for Every Single door in our house. I made easy sew baby blankets, painted tshirts, read books and whatever else I could think of.

So fast forward, if you’ve been following my blog you might have noticed my many different interests. LOL

Theres a reason for that, I spend alot less time eating and worrying about my next trough appointment, I am able to do those things I always wanted to have time to do.

Do you have anything you always wanted time to do?

Keto Journey – Homo Sapiens

For me, I grew up in a family (and I’ll bet its alot like yours) that every family event revolved around the table.

If there was a Holiday, Death, Birth, Marriage, Divorce and etc we needed Grannys magic pudding, Auntie Zeldas miracle fluff and Uncle Cookies alcohol concoction. This set us all up for lots of health issues in our future.

Intermittent fasting and Keto is touted as helping us to eat like our ancestors. When I say ancestors, I mean our Stone Age ancestors. Let’s think about that for a minute…

Presumably, our Stone Age brethren didn’t have 3 squares and snacks like we do today. What!

Because I am older than cellphones, I think I can relate to having to grow and nurture plants and critters for actual food or consumption. I went to Ma & Granddaddy’s farm to pick corn, grapes, Blackberries, okra, squash; collect eggs; slop the hogs…then once everything was washed, we shucked, squished, peeled and cut up everything for “putting up” and dinner.

What I am getting at here is because food is so readily available, we are fatter and lazier then our ancestors.

The way I imagine a day in the life of our predecessors is basically this: Wake up, go look for food, eat whatever you can find, repeat…maybe all George could find was a squirrel and so that’s what he ate for the day. Maybe all Lucy could find was green leaves with a few berries and so that’s what she ate for the day. At the end of the day, they found something to put in their belly.

The bottom line for me here is: food is fuel not a Family pig out session.

I have battled this my whole life and when I had bariatric surgery it allowed me to really think about what was really important and it wasn’t about granny’s magic pudding.

Keto Journey – Craving Sugar

Oh Man was this week was challenging!

So technically this is my 3rd week attempting Intermittent fasting and Keto. But it’s the first week without having sugar.

I almost broke weak; chocolate was calling to me! Someone gave me a giant slab of chocolate for Christmas.

Being a former smoker (almost 20 years ago), I wanted to approach this endeavor like I did with quitting smoking: Cold Turkey!

Sugar & Carbs are a Keto killer, which means if your body is dealing with the sugar it’s not dealing with burning fat. The main premise of Keto is retraining your body to burn fat for energy.

One of the biggest discussion topics I see is about sugar and substitutes. Bottom line, IF you need a sweetener the general consensus is use Stevia.

The way I understand it, Stevia has the lowest insulin response in the body. Unlike Splenda which causes the same type of response that real sugar does.

The idea is, is to keep your insulin or blood sugar on an even keel. It’s the insulin spikes that causes damage and eventually insulin resistance.

For instance, it was explained that Cancer cells like sugar and when you eat high carbs and sugars you are basically feeding those cells. So if we dont feed them so much, the less chance they will grow.

This resonates with me because I’ve had kidney cancer and I dont want to go through that again.

Beginning the Keto Journey

Hi There, this is probably the wrong time of year to start watching what I eat, but “there’s no time like the present”, right? 🎄🎅🎉

Well heres my thoughts on that.

First, I seem to gravitate towards doing things the hard way. LOL Know anyone else like that? 😁

Second, (cliche alert!) Nothing Easy is Worth Doing! 💪

And least but not last, I’ve gained 20lbs and its freaking me out! 🙀

You see, I’ve had bariatric surgery and lost 123lbs as a result. To say this was a new lease on life is an understatement. That was 6 years ago.

I’ve gained weight for a couple reasons: 1. I got fooled into thinking I could eat anything I wanted; total LIE! and 2. Mother Nature is a Bitch; Hello Menopause! ⚖🥵

So I’ve come around to Intermittent Fasting (IF) and the Keto diet. I’ve done alot of reading and searching to find what can work with my unique situation. These 2 things allow me to change it up to fit my lifestyle.

Let me say right here, THIS is my personal journey. I am NOT being sponsored or gifted anything. I am just journaling and sharing my ups and downs.

I am going to do atleast a weekly check in post, so please feel free to join me.

Let’s do this!

Here’s to a new day❣

Camera Clicks – December 2019 (Part 1)

You know I love the moon.

Tonight is the Last Full Moon for 2019.

These are from the parking lot at my office, I can only imagine the person that reviews the security footage. 😂🤣 they may see me (at 0630am on 12/12) sitting or kneeling on the ground or leaning on my car…📸💙🌝

Who was Daniel Boone – From the Lady Cave

And here is another person my 30 year old friend didn’t know…

So let’s start with this, have you ever watched (or read the book) “The Last of the Mohicans”?

This is one of my top 5 movies EVER! The main character is based loosely on Daniel Boone. Oh, Daniel Day-Lewis be still my heart! “Stay Alive! I Will Find You!”

There is alot of fact and legend surrounding DBs life. You can read more HERE about his very adventurous life.

For me, just reading about him makes me want to learn more about North Carolina, Kentucke (original spelling before it became Kentucky), Virginia, West Virginia and Missouri.

Funny how educating yourself leads to more knowledge.

Who else might you want to know about? Or is there a place you are curious about? Let me know in the comments and I’ll see about it.

Who was Benjamin Franklin – From the Lady Cave

What prompted this topic was a discussion with a 30 year old…

Not only did they not know a pickle was a cucumber, they had no clue who Benjamin Franklin was and why he was so important to the creation of America. 🇺🇲

This person thought he was a President because he was on the $100 bill. 🤯

Here is a link that will help inform or educate you on Who Ben Franklin was and how he became a key negotiator in our becoming The United States of America.

Over the summer we went to Washington DC and I picked up a little book of quotes by Ben Franklin.

Here are a few famous quotes:

A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned

Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.

In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is Freedom, in water there is bacteria.

Hide not your talents, they for use were made, What’s a sundial in the shade?

Camera Clicks – Speed light

My Hubs got me a speed light (Nikon SB-300) for my birthday. I was so excited even though I had no idea how to use it correctly. So off to YouTube I went. I watched a few different videos by a few different channels like: Sean Tucker, Tony and Chelsea; The Photography Academy and etc.

THIS just upped my Love for photography❣📸😁

It’s amazing to have the ability to warm up a scene by just redirecting some light.

Before the speed light:

I love the pictures above but here’s some with the speed light at different angles.

Peace – Dec 8

Peace, what does that mean to you?

Inner peace or peace with others…

For me, inner peace means letting go of what or who, you can not control. We are all control freaks at times because we get caught up in the image we hold in our minds. Sometimes the Universe has a better idea.

Ever push so hard for something and it just doesn’t work out, then you are highly disappointed? Yeah, that’s the universe saying “let it go Elsa” this is the way it needs to be.

Peace with others, this one is a bit harder. You have to be willing to accept people for the way they are, not how you think they should be. Think about that for a minute…

Ultimately, it is NOT your job to make people see the error of their ways. You do not have to be around toxic people but you also can’t carry that baggage around either; put it down, cut that nerve. When and if they are ready, they’ll see it for what it is. Hopefully it wont be too late.

Show your children how to be the better person. Show them how to have inner peace and how to NOT carry others baggage.

Be the better person.
